Fitness vs Fitting In

I’ve been reading a lot about lay-off and reorganization and blah blah blah…

I’ve also been talking to my friends about work situations and just so you know I’ve been in a few work situations myself.  And at some point it seems like we stopped worrying about the fitness of an employee and only worried about fitting in.

This is not to say that finding the right team atmosphere isn’t important but when did the ability to DO the work stop being the priority?  Shouldn’t the priority be the WORK?  Doing the work well?  Doing the work in smartest way possible?

Instead groups seem to clump in a lowest common denominator / we’ve always done it this way / just keep doing it and don’t ask questions kind of way.  People earn more and more money but what happened to real managers?  Higher ups that know the steps and work to enhance your strengths?  What happened to them?

Maybe I just listen to the bad stories.  But really, isn’t it time for everyone to step up?

Work is work.

They pay you because it’s work.

But that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t all respect one another.  And play to our strengths and not to someone’s juvenile sense of humor.  Think about what you are doing, think about how you do it, do your best.  Believe in what you do.  Do what you believe in.

You don’t have to love your work.  You just have to do the best work you can do.
