lunch time dim sum?

April 30, 2010

I was in the city today for a training and at lunch time I was thinking I’d wander over to Chinatown and get some dim sum.  I was by myself and didn’t really feel like going to a sit down restaurant just to get some bao and shu mai.

Oakland has a LOT of bakery type places with some really enjoyable dim sum…. but not San Francisco.  I wandered and just didn’t find anything like what I was looking for.  Some places that had some dim sum were busy trying to do everything else under the sun as well.

I love dim sum.  I should have just gone to a restaurant but I would have ended up eating a lot more than I was hungry for and I’m really trying not to do that anymore.

And I still want dim sum.

today I was productive

April 29, 2010

I’m so proud of myself.

I’ve been working such long hours and have so much on my plate… And it doesn’t help that when I get home I’ve got tons to do and I’m not getting to bed early enough.

But last night before I left I made a list of what had to get done, absolutely had to get done today.  And I did it.

I pushed and I worked and I focused and I did it.

I completed the list – well not entirely but I completed everything I could do by myself on the list.

And I went out for lunch.  And after work I went to the Anthro thing about Egyptian Art Conservation.

Today I was productive.

And now I’m going to bed.

I blame Bernie

April 28, 2010

Bernie’s got me jonesing for some heirloom beans from Rancho Gordo in the worst way.

They don’t need much of any adornment.  Bernie swears by some shalots but her husband goes full mirepoix with carrots, celery and onion.

I’m thinking Yellow Indian Woman beans with shalots and a pinch of cummin and curry powder.

I will do my Rio Zappe just the way she did with a splash of lime juice just before serving.

Heirloom beans, they’re health and tasty all at the same time.

now that’s short

April 27, 2010

So I’ve been watching dvds of Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In…

And maybe it’s the fact that I’ve been wearing skirts a lot these days but I started to wonder how exactly did women sit down without exposing themselves in the 70’s because those were so SHORT skirts.  I’m only really comfortable wearing leggings or tights under my skirt or dress but these women weren’t even wearing pantyhose.

How did they not flash everyone all the time?

Or was that the point?

something new every day

April 26, 2010

Did you learn something new today?

I try to learn new things all the time.  And I ask people if they learned new things when I see them.

Most people look at me like I’m crazy.  Which I think is crazy.

Shouldn’t we all be striving to learn new things all the time.  Not necessarily reading a page of the dictionary every day but why not subscribe to a Word – A – Day email list?  Or at the very least be open to learning from other people whenever possible?

Think about it.

Did you learn something new today?  If not, try to learn two things tomorrow.

So we are in an internet age… and an age where no one seems to care about personal privacy… so why can’t I find personal websites for 2 of the 3 Project Runway finalists?

In this day and age why don’t they all have their portfolios and sketches up online to build their cult followings immediately?

I mean really?  Is it so hard to create a blog?  No, I did it!!!  So – anyone could.  And websites aren’t so hard.

Marketing is important… don’t they know this?

Where are the websites?

At least I made it through my the work-flow meeting after lunch before succumbing to the horrendous headache that just won’t not vacate my skull.

I called my boss and told her I didn’t feel well and was going home.  She actually asked me why I was telling her.  Have I mentioned that I really like my boss?

So I finished the key stuff on my desk and headed out the door.

The best medicine for a headache?  HOME.

At least that’s how I feel.  A hot bath, a cool room, a comfy bed and an ice pack.

A few hours later and the world is right again.

Yay for home!
