lacking in texture but still impressive

February 2, 2011

I must say I’m THRILLED with Google’s latest endeavor…. the Art Project.

Wander around famous museums without leaving your home, thanks to Street Views of places like Versailles and the Van Gogh museum.

No, this isn't one of the images but I just found out about it and I think it's stunning.

You can view the museum and see the paintings on the walls or you can view individual works of art.  And thanks to the high resolution images you can see tight close ups of the image.

Now, Sam doesn’t like it as much as I do because he misses the ability to really see the brush strokes and the sense of depth you can feel while standing in the actual museum staring at a piece.  And on one hand, I agree with him and don’t think this replaces actual museums… but let’s face it.  I’m not getting to Versailles or the Hermitage any time soon… so this is a big help.

what do you think?
