learning things in BC

October 10, 2011

Yesterday we went to the Museum of Anthropology.  And can I just say … WOW.

On the one hand the totems… oh my GOD the totems!

But also the sculptures…

I can not begin to tell you how amazingly awesome this statue by Bill Reid called The Raven and The First Men is.  It’s epic.  It’s huge.  It’s more than a little bit awe-inspiring.

But what just takes the MOA to a level unparalleled by other museums I have been to are  the drawers.

See the displays are lovely glass cases…

but that’s nothing compared to the fact that underneath almost all the cases are at least 5 drawers of additional stuff.

So basically the museum goes on forever … attempting to show you the history of all the people in the world.  It’s more than a little bit daunting.

The owls were cool though… I didn’t know about those…

I can only say that you need to go to Vancouver.  You need to go to the Museum of Anthropology.  And you need to learn everything you can about every culture in the world.

It’s not too much to ask.
